Rand Paul Seeks Criminal Referral Against Anthony Fauci

Today is the fourth Saturday of the month and as per the schedule of this blog, I will write about a nation outside of South Asia. 

The country that I will discuss about today is the United States of America.

The topic I want to discuss today is the Congressional hearing that took place on the 20th of July in which Dr. Anthony Fauci - the Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases - was questioned by members of Congress. One of the members was Senator Rand Paul, from the state of Kentucky.

After the hearing he has said that he will send a letter to the Department of Justice, seeking a criminal referral against Dr. Fauci for lying to Congress, which is a crime. If he is proven to be guilty, then he will face a maximum penalty of five years imprisonment and a fine of $250,000 (1).

This is because in an earlier hearing on May 11th of this year Fauci gave a statement claiming that the National Institute of Health - the NIH - had never funded gain-of-function research in the Wuhan Institute of Virology in the city of Wuhan, China. Rand Paul  said that the statement was false because a new report has come out that proves that the NIH did fund gain of function research in Wuhan. 

I believe that Rand Paul - who is also a Doctor - is correct. 

Before going further into Senator Paul's claim, I will explain what gain of function research is. 

Gain-of-function research is defined as medical research that alters an organism or disease in a way that increases pathogenesis, transmissibility, or host range (the types of hosts that a microorganism can infect) (2).

The report presented by Senator Paul was from the Wuhan Institute of Virology. 

The paper says that research was done in the lab to study viruses in mammals to make them more transmissible to humans. This satisfies the aforementioned definition of Gain-of-function research. 

However Dr. Fauci continued to insist that the research conducted was not gain-of function. 

Both statements cannot be true. And the paper from Senator Paul says that they took viruses from different animals to make them more infectious towards humans.

 Dr. Fauci says that his staff have gone through the paper and found it inaccurate. But I believe that because they are his own staff that they have a conflict of interest in examining such a report.

If what the report says is true then they would be culpable both morally and legally for the pandemic. Therefore they already had an interest to discredit the report and so their assessment of the veracity of such report is I believe not credible. And the Senator claims that he has been told by scientists that they are scared to cross Dr. Fauci because the NIH gives them grants for research.

The left-wing media in America such as CNN, MSNBC, the New York Times, The Washington Post etc were very biased in their coverage of this hearing. They only showed what Fauci said and did not give equal coverage of Paul's statements. This was very irresponsible, but unsurprising because the mainstream media has constantly supported Anthony Fauci and has made him into a media star.

However several independent journalists like Saagar Enjeti and Krystal Ball, Josh Rogin, and others have covered this issue in detail.

The NIH gave a grant to the Eco-Health Alliance to fund research in the Wuhan Institute of Virology relating to bat coronaviruses in order to enhance their transmissibility. This is a fact. However Dr. Fauci claims that this is not gain-of-function research. This is false. He also says that this specific grant and the subsequent research did not cause the pandemic. As of now there is no way to ascertain the veracity of that claim because it has not been investigated.

A government's primary responsibility is to protect the security of its citizens. The U.S government by funding such dangerous research failed to fulfill this responsibility. If such research was not conducted the pandemic would not have happened. 

Most Congressmen and women like most politicians in most countries do not question powerful individuals like Anthony Fauci especially when they know that the media will attack them for it. Therefore I applaud Senator Rand Paul for doing so.

If what he claims is true then Anthony Fauci should in my opinion be charged with treason because he betrayed the nation by funding research that could endanger the nation's citizens. This is an anti-national act - if true.

I hope that there is an investigation into the origins of the pandemic. We must make sure that the truth comes out so we can prevent this from happening again.

The SARS 19 novel-Coronavirus

Nationalists like Donald Trump and Jair Bolsonaro had for a long time held that the novel-Coronavirus 2019 was leaked from the Wuhan lab. Globalists like Joe Biden, Brazil's opposition politicians, the World Health Organisation and others - the scientific community in particular - dismissed this claim without any counter-evidence. 

Now we are finding out that this theory is highly plausible and should not have been dismissed without a proper investigation. The globalists must apologise to the nationalists and to the people of the world for not investigating this possibility.
